Clutch Gearbox Driveshaft Differential

Tap a part to see how it fits in the system.

What it does

  • Transfers engine torque to the gearbox
  • Allows slip for smooth take-off
  • Disconnects drive for gear changes

When it fails

  • Clutch slips under hard acceleration
  • Gears hard to engage
  • Clutch pedal feels heavy or sticks
  • Burning smell

How to diagnose

  1. Test clutch slip in a high gear
  2. Check the pedal free play
  3. Check hydraulic fluid for the clutch
  4. Listen for release bearing noise

Maintenance

  • Replace the clutch kit (friction, pressure plate, bearing) together
  • Replace the slave/master cylinders at the same time
  • Do not ride the pedal
Use the diagnosis order. When a part fails, confirm each hypothesis with measurements before replacing anything — codes and symptoms overlap.
