What it does
- Splits torque between the two driven wheels
- Allows the outer wheel to turn faster in corners
- Multiplies torque through the final drive
When it fails
- Whining from the axle at speed
- Clunking when changing load
- Oil leak from the axle housing
- Vibration from the rear on RWD
How to diagnose
- Check the differential oil level
- Listen while driving in circles
- Check for play in the pinion and output flanges
Maintenance
- Change the differential oil on schedule
- Use the correct LSD friction additive if fitted
