Over-the-air updates let the manufacturer deliver new software to vehicle modules without a workshop visit. They can fix faults, improve efficiency or add features, and are becoming part of routine ownership.
Because a partial update can leave a module unusable, updates need stable power (and often the engine running or a charger connected) plus reliable connectivity. A vehicle with a failed update may show unusual faults or non-communication that a scan tool alone will not resolve.
