Diagnostics over IP (DoIP) uses Ethernet and IP addressing to communicate with vehicle modules, replacing or supplementing older serial diagnostics. It offers high bandwidth, which is essential for large software updates and modern diagnostic protocols.
A DoIP connection behaves like any IP network: it needs a valid link, addressing and a responding vehicle gateway. Connection failures are often cable, addressing, firewall or gateway related rather than a module fault.
