Continuity tells you a path exists; it does not tell you the path is good. A cable with two strands left can still buzz continuity but fail to carry starter current. That is why, for high-current circuits, you measure voltage drop while the load is operating.
Resistance measurement is valuable for sensors and coils, but only when they are isolated from the rest of the circuit so parallel paths do not corrupt the reading.
