The inverter converts the DC from the traction battery into three-phase AC to drive the electric motor, and converts the motor’s AC output back to DC during regenerative braking. It controls motor torque and speed by switching power semiconductors at high frequency.

Diagnosis is manufacturer-specific. The important technician-level points are: it lives behind the orange cables, it contains capacitors that stay charged after isolation, and faults here typically produce drive-disabled warnings rather than obvious mechanical symptoms.
