Before touching a scan tool, identify the vehicle precisely. The VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) is a 17-character code that identifies the manufacturer, the model, the engine and the production sequence. Two visually identical cars can carry completely different electrical architectures.
In OBD-II vehicles the VIN is usually readable through Mode 09 PID 02, but the engine code (for example K9K, EA189, N13) is what selects the correct wiring diagram, tolerances and service procedures.
Never apply generic values to a specific vehicle. Charging voltage, sensor resistance and timing data depend on the manufacturer, engine and system. Always confirm with the manufacturer documentation for that VIN.
