Introduction

A car converts the chemical energy stored in fuel into heat, then into rotating mechanical work and finally into motion at the wheels. Every fault you will diagnose is, at heart, a break in that chain — or a bad measurement along it.

A technician thinks in systems, not parts. The engine produces torque; the transmission adapts it; the chassis transfers it to the road; the electrical network powers the sensors and actuators that keep the whole machine under control.

Typical training example: on a small turbocharged petrol engine the energy chain is fuel tank → pump → injectors → combustion → pistons → crankshaft → gearbox → driveshafts → wheels. Any weak link changes the symptom at the tailpipe or the driver seat.
