Test procedure
- Turn off all loads and let the battery rest so the surface charge dissipates.
- Select DC volts on the multimeter.
- Connect the black lead to the negative terminal and the red lead to the positive terminal.
- Read the voltage and compare it with the manufacturer guide for that battery technology.

These bands are teaching aids for a conventional lead-acid battery at room temperature. AGM, EFB, gel and lithium systems, and different temperatures, change the interpretation. Always prefer the manufacturer data.
