Margin vs markup
Margin is profit ÷ selling price. Markup is profit ÷ cost. 30% margin means sell at cost ÷ 0.70, not cost × 1.30. The calculator uses margin the way garages quote it.
- Retail margin : often 30–40%
- Trade / professional margin : often 15–25%

FAQ
On a part bought for 100 and sold for 140, the markup is 40% (40/100) but the margin is 28.6% (40/140). Never confuse the two when quoting.
