Always trust the owner manual
Oil quantity, viscosity and API/ACEA specification must come from the vehicle documentation. Common passenger cars use between 3 and 6 litres; engines with larger oil pans or turbochargers use more.
- Choose the viscosity recommended by the manufacturer (e.g. 0W-20, 5W-30, 5W-40)
- Respect the API (gasoline) or ACEA (European) specification
- Replace the oil filter at every change
- Check the drain plug torque — most are 25–40 Nm
- Run the engine 1 minute after filling, check level, top up
Interval advice
Modern cars commonly recommend 10,000–15,000 km or 1 year, whichever comes first. Severe driving (short trips, heavy traffic, dust, towing) calls for more frequent changes. The calculator lets you plan this.
FAQ
Many owners do to reduce burning noise, but the manufacturer’s spec protects the engine best. If you deviate, stay within one viscosity grade and the correct specification class.
Fill to about 70–80% of the capacity, run the engine briefly, wait 5 minutes and top up to the full mark using the dipstick. Never overfill — excess oil can damage the engine.
Mixing brands of the same viscosity and specification is generally safe for a top-up, but for a full service it is best to use one clean product.
