What it does

  • Filters oil continuously while the engine runs
  • Traps wear particles and soot
  • Has an anti-drain-back valve to keep oil ready

When it fails

  • Oil leak at the filter
  • Filter loose or crushed (bad tool use)
  • Low oil pressure from a clogged filter

How to diagnose

  1. Check the filter seal for leaks
  2. Change at every oil service

Maintenance

  • Use a quality filter of the correct spec
  • Hand-tighten + 3/4 turn, never crush
  • Change with every oil change
Use the diagnosis order. When a part fails, confirm each hypothesis with measurements before replacing anything — codes and symptoms overlap.
