What it does
- Provides airflow at standstill and low speed
- Switches on by coolant temperature or AC request
- Prevents overheating in traffic
When it fails
- Overheats only in traffic or with AC on
- Fan never comes on
- Fan runs constantly
- Loud rattling from the fan
How to diagnose
- Short the fan relay to test the motor
- Check the fan relay and fuse
- Check the coolant temperature sensor signal
- Test the fan control module
Maintenance
- Keep the radiator and fan area clean
- Replace worn fan motors promptly
Use the diagnosis order. When a part fails, confirm each hypothesis with measurements before replacing anything — codes and symptoms overlap.
