What it does

  • Provides airflow at standstill and low speed
  • Switches on by coolant temperature or AC request
  • Prevents overheating in traffic

When it fails

  • Overheats only in traffic or with AC on
  • Fan never comes on
  • Fan runs constantly
  • Loud rattling from the fan

How to diagnose

  1. Short the fan relay to test the motor
  2. Check the fan relay and fuse
  3. Check the coolant temperature sensor signal
  4. Test the fan control module

Maintenance

  • Keep the radiator and fan area clean
  • Replace worn fan motors promptly
Use the diagnosis order. When a part fails, confirm each hypothesis with measurements before replacing anything — codes and symptoms overlap.
