What it does
- Creates friction against the disc
- New pads have 10–12 mm of material
- Wear indicator squeals when worn
When it fails
- Squealing (wear indicator) or grinding
- Longer stopping distance
- Low brake pedal
- Brake warning light
How to diagnose
- Inspect pad thickness through the wheel
- Check both inner and outer pad
- Compare wear across the axle
Maintenance
- Replace at 3 mm of material or before
- Replace in axle pairs
- Replace or re-face the discs when pads are very worn
