- Engine off: record battery voltage.
- Engine idling, no loads: record charging voltage.
- Engine at about 2,000 rpm with headlights, blower and rear demister on: record loaded voltage and watch for fluctuation.
- Measure voltage drop from the alternator B+ to the battery positive, and from the alternator case to the battery negative.
