A commanded actuator test makes the ECU drive an output on purpose so you can watch what happens. It is one of the fastest ways to prove a relay, solenoid, motor or valve — and its wiring — without dismantling anything.
The test is only meaningful when you confirm the response: an audible click, a movement, a pressure or current change. If the command is present but nothing happens, you have localised the fault to the output, its wiring or the actuator itself.
- Confirm the vehicle is safe and warn anyone nearby.
- Select the actuator and command it with the scan tool.
- Observe the physical response, not just the menu.
- If it fails, check supply, command and ground at the actuator.
- Confirm mechanical movement where the actuator should move something.
