Discs and pads wear differently
Brake pads are typically replaced at 3 mm of friction material, discs when they reach the minimum thickness stamped on the hub (often 2 mm below new). Pads last roughly 30,000–50,000 km; discs often twice as long.
- Always measure with a micrometer, not by eye
- Replace discs in pairs (both sides of an axle)
- Worn discs cause pulsing under braking
- A warning light or a grinding noise means immediate attention
