What P0300 means
P0300 means the engine is misfiring on multiple cylinders (or the ECM could not isolate one). A misfire wastes fuel, can damage the catalyst and causes rough running.
The causes, in order of likelihood
- Spark plugs or ignition coils worn
- Vacuum or intake air leak
- Low fuel pressure or clogged injectors
- MAF sensor dirty or faulty
- Low compression in one or more cylinders
The diagnostic order
- Read the codes and live misfire counts per cylinder
- Inspect the plugs and coils; swap coils to see if the misfire moves
- Smoke-test the intake for leaks
- Check fuel pressure
- Compression test only if the above are fine
