The fuel cost of under-inflation

Tires under-inflated by 0.5 bar can raise fuel consumption by 2–3% through increased rolling resistance. On a car using 1,000 L a year, that is 20–30 L wasted.

The right pressure

1. Check the sticker on the door frame or fuel cap — not the tire itself
2. Measure cold (before driving) for accurate readings
3. Check monthly and before long trips
4. Pressure drops about 0.1 bar per 10 °C of temperature

Pressure and safety

Under-inflation overheats the tire and increases blowout risk; over-inflation reduces grip and wears the center. Both wear tires unevenly and lengthen braking.
