What it does
- Removes dust and particles from intake air
- Protects the MAF sensor and engine
- Clogged filters starve the engine of air
When it fails
- Poor acceleration
- Higher fuel consumption
- Black smoke from a rich mixture
- MAF codes from contamination
How to diagnose
- Hold it up to light: clogged filters look dark
- Inspect the housing and seals
Maintenance
- Replace every 15k–30k km or per the manual
- Inspect more often in dusty conditions
- Clean the housing when changing the filter
Use the diagnosis order. When a part fails, confirm each hypothesis with measurements before replacing anything — codes and symptoms overlap.
